  • Interface: Channel Editor, Outliner, displaying UI elements, display modes
  • Heirarchy/Object/ComponentSelection modes
  • Peeling off Panels for workflow
  • Components of a polygon - faces, edges, and vertices. smoothing, extruding faces
  • Quick Render
  • Working in class: Modeling with polygon primitives, extrusions, cutting faces
  • readings due: Maya_UI.pdf & shortkeys (in the pickup folder -> in the Maya_books_pdfs folder
  • Watch: Maya Essentials videos in Day_2 folder
  • tutorials due: complete Lesson 1 (pp.42-62) M7_Foundations_Book.pdf (same location as Maya_UI.pdf) + finish the helicopter. I will collect these on Tues.

  • More on polygons - Boolean operations, normals,
  • File optimization
  • Poly Cleanup: planar vs. non-planar, non-manifold, lamina geometry

  • Camera Type + Set Up for rendering
  • basic rendering options: Software, Mental Ray, Hardware, Vector, Renderman
  • More on polygons - Combining and separating polys, Duplicating faces, extracting
  • homework due: Four Renders (of your Bubba or Polyman Character) with shadows:

    1 - software render with DMap shadow
    2 - software render with raytraced shadow
    3 - mental ray render with DMap shadow
    4 - mental ray render with raytraced shadow

    all renders should be saved as tif's
    - keep the camera in the same position for all 4 renders
    - make sure the camera shows the ohect + shadow clearly

  • Render your polyform object with a ramp texture, a 2D texture, a 3D texture, a bump map, and a displacement texture. Hand in tifs along with your scene file

  • Complete the grass paint effects tutorial (pdf) with your own text (tutorial is in the Week 8 folder) and brush. Hand in a playblast of your scene.
  • Complete your 12 storyboard renders from Assignment 1; Composite the 12 frames into a single storyboard page, save this as a tif or a pdf (roughly 12" x 11" @ 180 dpi). You can make some frames larger or smaller to stress the length of that shot.
